How will my exam be conducted?

BMH Training offers online examinations using Microsoft Teams with live invigilators to support you throughout your examination.

What will I need?

  • You will need a PC or laptop
  • A webcam and microphone
  • An internet browser
  • Stable internet connection
  • Basic calculator (scientific calculators are not allowed; not required)

When will I get my marks?

Open Awards work on a 16 working day timeline for marks for Functional Skills Mathematics examinations to the centre. You will be emailed by the Distance Learning team with your results as soon as we receive them.

What happens if I don’t pass?

What are the pass rates for the Functional Skills Mathematics examinations?

That really depends on the paper that is assigned to you by the awarding body, they vary between 53% and 59%.


Modules

Open Awards Level 2 Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics supports learners to apply their mathematical skills, through appropriate reasoning and decision making, to solve realistic problems of increasing complexity.

Learners should be:
• Introduced to new areas of life and work so that they are exposed to concepts and problems which, while not of immediate concern, may be of value in later life;
• Enabled to develop an appreciation of the role played by mathematics in the world of work and in life generally;
• Able to use these skills autonomously, applying them to a range of formal and informal contexts, in the workplace and in real life.

    • Using numbers and the number system
    • Using common measures, shape and space
    • Handle information and data
    • Solving mathematical problems and decision making

Qualification

You will gain an Open Awards Functional Skills Level 2 in Mathematics (RFQ). More information can be found at Open Awards.

Examination

The examination takes place in one 2-hour examination which is split into two parts, non-calculator and calculator.
